Metro Newspaper is the largest and fastest growing international newspaper in the world. 57 daily Metro editions are published in 81 major cities in 18 countries in 17 languages across Europe, North & South America and Asia. Metro has a unique global reach - attracting a young, active, well-educated audience of more than 15m daily readers and over 33 million weekly readers. Metro has an equal number of male and female readers and 70% are under the age of 45. Metro's advertising sales have grown at a compound annual rate of 47% since the launch of the first edition in 1995.

Distribution

The 56 Metro free newspaper editions are distributed in high-traffic commuter zones or in public transport networks from a combination of self-service racks and by hand distributors on weekdays. Weekend editions are also published in Stockholm and Holland on Saturdays. The distribution points are located either in, or around, public transport networks (subways, trains, buses, trams), office buildings, retail outlets, at key distribution points on busy streets, or in other high-density population areas such as college campuses.

Content

All Metro editions carry headline local, national and international news in a standardized and accessible format and design, which enables commuters to read the newspaper during a typical journey time of less than twenty minutes. Metro’s editorial content is also free from bias and focuses on giving readers the news they need at the time they read, rather than comment or views.

Audience

The timing and location of distribution enables Metro to target a high proportion of young and active, professional readers. This demographic group is not typically reading daily newspapers but is most attractive for advertisers. Metro is therefore not only delivering a new generation of newspaper readers but also the ‘premium TV audience’ that advertisers so prize. Metro is a prime time ambient media that reflects modern people’s busy lives and capitalizes on the downtime commute in the morning to deliver a unique global audience.
